Quote #66: Michele Horstman
"Hi, my name is Michele Horstman. I am a member of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition. A quote that is a daily reminder for me is: Eat more foods that grow on plants; Eat less food that is manufactured in plants. A couple of years ago, I decided to be on a primarily plant-based, whole-grain (very little meat/dairy) diet. (Making me technically a “flexitarian”). My brother, who has always invested in healthy living and education, was telling me about this book, Michael Greger, M.D., How Not to Die. The premise is that plant-based foods have been scientifically proven to prevent and reverse disease. He told me about Dr. Greger. His passion in writing this book. His non-profit, NutritionFacts.org, and videos. Evidence-based studies and research are shared in the spirit of truth, the truth about the health industry, and care for others. How healthily we survive and how well we recover from illness may depend on what we eat. We all grow old, but we don’t have to suffer from the common diseases. We can live into old age with more vitality. I have decided that I am going to do the best I can with my health choices now, so that I can hopefully live with freedom, autonomy, health, and activity as I age. I enjoy plant-based foods, so it is interesting and not a sacrifice nor a diet for me. And being a flexitarian leaves my options open to still enjoy meat/dairy and processed foods once in a while."
