Just Breathe!
Breathing is one of those amazing process that’s both in and out of our conscious control. Research suggest it may be helpful for us to be a bit more intentional, particularly around prioritizing nasal breathing over mouth breathing as much as possible. In addition to many health benefits, nasal breathing has also been found to help calm anxiety, improve the quality of our sleep, and improve our mood and concentration.
While some find it easy and natural to breathe in and out of our noses, others find it takes awareness, intention, and practice.
For a simple strategy, set aside a few minutes and practice nasal box breathing – breathe in for a count of four, hold for four, exhale for four, and hold for four more. Repeat for several rounds, knowing you are caring for your mental and physical health with each and every breath!
