Life Hack in Action #40: Awe Walk

Hi ya'll! I am Wallace "Wally" Mayton, Honorably Retired as ordained pastor within the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A., current Parish Associate with Memorial Presbyterian Church in Midland, a neighbor, husband, father, and grandfather. The Life Hack I have chosen today has been inspired by my recent annual family beach trip, which included all five daughters and nine grandchildren. The Life Hack is #8 Awe Walk.

I chose this life hack, since "awe" brings a sense of wonder and imagination. For me, the beach is the ideal place for reflection. The mix of sun, sky, water, and constantly changing surf reminds me that I’m part of something bigger. Early mornings and sunsets are my favorite times to take these walks, witness the beauty, and let it refresh my mind and spirit. It helps me feel present and purposeful, and the changing environment always offers something new to observe.

I want to remind people that an Awe Walk doesn’t have to be limited to the beach or vacations. You can experience it anywhere—on a neighborhood trail, garden, or even sports field. It’s all about taking a moment to reflect on where you are and appreciating the natural world around you. It’s become part of my daily routine, and I encourage everyone to find a small way to moments to connect with something larger than themselves.
