Life Hack in Action #54: Yet

Hi, I’m Cindy Rhoades. I’m a mom, wife, and Gigi to four wonderful grandchildren. After living in Texas for 14 years, my husband and I moved back to Michigan to be closer to our grandkids. We love Midland and the community here. I have the privilege of working at the Rock Center for Youth Development and the Discover You program as the partnership specialist.

The Life Hack I’m sharing today is number 19: "Yet." This life hack supports my wellbeing by encouraging a growth mindset. When we moved across the country, I had to embrace a growth mindset, and the word "yet" helped me shift my thinking. Instead of saying, "I can't do this" or "This is impossible," adding "yet" changes the perspective to "I can't do this yet" or "This is impossible yet," opening up possibilities and fostering growth.

To try this life hack, simply start by recognizing when you're facing a challenge and feeling stuck. Instead of thinking "I can't," add "yet" to shift your mindset. Remember, nothing is impossible. Practicing this will help you foster a growth mindset, and over time, it will become second nature. Our brains are like muscles— the more we practice, the stronger our mindset becomes.

I encourage you to give it a try and see how your perspective changes. You might find that what once seemed impossible is now within reach.
