Life Hack #54: Set Intentions

How often do you consider what you want out of a particular day, situation, conversation, or task? Why might this be a helpful practice? Setting intentions has been found to improve motivation, mood, goal achievement, and relationships. Different from setting goals, setting intentions is more about who you want to be or how you want to feel moving forward. When aligned to our values, it can help us to better show up in the world the way we want to. When setting intentions: be clear, positive, and simple. Also consider what barriers might stand in your way, including how you might address those barriers. Setting intentions in a positive way is key as our brains tend to focus on the main message, so “don’t be lazy” simplifies to “lazy” in our brain. A better intention would be to “be productive!” A great way to get started setting intentions is in the morning. What kind of day do you intend to have?
