Quote #14: Featuring Bridgette Gransden
Hi, I’m Bridgette Gransden, Administrator/Controller for Midland County and member of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition.
A quote that helps me refocus is “Comparison is the thief of joy," said by Teddy Roosevelt.
This quote helps me refocus because it reminds me that although my world has variables that are different from others, I have volumes to be grateful for. When I move into what I call “I wish mode” I immediately start feeling as if my world is lacking. By comparing things that are mine –belongings, house, car, work, appearance, strength, health, etc.—to those around me, I set myself up for disappointment and my joy to be stolen. This quote supports my wellbeing by reminding me that I have control of whether or not that JOY disappears by reminding me that I have so much to be grateful for. So, ask yourself, is your JOY being stolen OR are you actually giving it away by comparing your “stuff” to others?
This has been brought to you by the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition's Quotes to Live By Series. Thank you for reading.Teddy Roosevelt
