Hi, I'm Chuck Sherwin, and I work at MyMichigan Health. As I reflected back to the beginning of the year, I thought of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He reminded us that the ultimate measure of a person isn’t where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience, but where they stand at times of challenge and controversy. That resonates with me as a healthcare manager because healthcare rarely gives us the luxury of easy decisions. In challenging moments — when resources are tight, emotions run high, or the right path isn’t the popular one — our responsibility is to stay anchored to what matters most and do what is clinically and ethically right.

For me, this quote is a call to lead with steady courage and genuine compassion, to be transparent about the “why,” and to make hard choices in a way that protects trust — because trust is earned most when things get difficult.
