Quotes To Live By

Quote #202: Christi Dickey

Hi, I’m Christi Dickey, a performance and wellbeing coach and a member of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition.

A quote that’s deeply meaningful to me is: “Wellbeing isn’t built by trying harder. It emerges when people feel safe enough, supported enough, and aligned enough to be themselves consistently.” — Platinum Performance

The reason this quote matters to me is because, for most of my life and much of my career, I believed wellbeing came from effort, discipline, and pushing through. What I’ve seen again and again, both personally and professionally, is that people don’t burn out because they’re weak or unmotivated. They burn out because they’re operating in environments that require constant self-monitoring, over-responsibility, and performance.

This quote supports my wellbeing by reminding me to stop asking, “How can I try harder?” and instead ask, “What conditions would actually allow me to feel steady, whole, and human?” When safety, support, and alignment are present, wellbeing becomes a natural response, not another task on the list.

So, where in your life are you trying harder, when what you might really need is more support or a different environment?

This has been brought to you by the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition’s Quotes to Live By Series.

Warmly,
Christi
