Quotes To Live By

Quote #203: Allison Byron

Hi, I’m Allison Byron. I’m an SEL Specialist with Midland Public Schools, a member of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition, and a mama to an amazing baby girl. A quote that really hits home for me is, “Talk to yourself like you would to someone you love,” by Brené Brown.

This quote matters to me because I’ve noticed how quickly my inner voice can turn sharp, especially on hard days — days when I feel tired, stretched thin, or like I should be doing more. Becoming a parent has made me even more aware of this. I think about the way I speak to my daughter with patience, gentleness, and encouragement, and this quote reminds me that I deserve that same kindness, too.

This quote supports my wellbeing by helping me slow down and soften my self-talk. It also shows up in my work when I’m coaching staff or teaching mindfulness lessons with students. We spend a lot of time noticing how we talk to ourselves and how that voice can either support us or make things harder. Learning to be kinder to ourselves builds resilience, confidence, and emotional safety at every age.

So, what would it sound like to speak to yourself today the way you would to someone you care deeply about? This has been brought to you by the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition’s Quotes to Live By Series. Take care!
