A quote that inspires me to be mindful of comparing or sitting in judgment of myself or others is from Oscar Wilde, “Be yourself, everyone else is already taken.” The reason I find this quote so important to remember is that so often we feel the need to assimilate or compare ourselves to others, rather than celebrate and thrive in our uniqueness (and let others do the same). We take in so much information about what is ‘cool’, ‘trendy’, or ‘important’ within our various communities, that sometimes we forget those are fleeting moments in our existence. So, next time you feel down about yourself or are sitting in comparison with others, remember that the odds of you being born uniquely and perfectly you are about 1 in 400 trillion—you should marvel and savor in that gift.
