Quotes To Live By
Quote #59: Jim Nigro
"Hi, I’m Jim Nigro, recently retired from a 40-year business career and am currently thrilled to be working part-time as an assistant outreach coordinator for our very own Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition. A quote that is especially meaningful to me comes from Booker T. Washington, who said: “If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else.” I find this quote meaningful because it’s life’s best antidote for the blues that all of us feel from time to time. Studies have shown that when we help others, our brains release “feel good” chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins. Especially when I’m feeling a bit down, I try my best to take the focus off me and do something helpful for another person, stranger or friend alike, and give myself a jolt of joy in the process. So next time you find yourself in a funk, open that door for someone, clear the snow from your neighbor’s walk, check in on a friend going through a tough time, etc. … we’re not talking heroics here, just basic kindness. You’ll feel better yourself for lifting somebody else’s spirits! This has been brought to you by the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition’s Quotes to Live By Series. Stay well, friend! "
