Quotes To Live By

Quote #42: Heidi McIvor-Allen

Hey there, I'm Heidi McIvor-Allen, the owner of McIvor Marketing and a member of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition. I find inspiration in the following quote: "Every day, we all have a beautiful opportunity to set new goals for ourselves professionally and personally and say NO to things that don't NOurish us anymore. Unless it's a F*#& YES, then it should be a NO!" This powerful mantra, crafted by a dear friend and myself, serves as a reminder that we use during our monthly Boss Power Hour meetings that we host. It resonates deeply with those of us who often struggle with taking on too much and find it challenging to utter the word 'no.' In the past, I viewed 'no' as a negative concept until an insightful yoga instructor shared the second half of the quote with me, enlightening me to the fact that sometimes things we say NO to actually NOurish us more than things we say yes to. Saying 'no' isn't inherently negative—it can be a form of self-care. This quote enhances my overall wellbeing by serving as a constant reminder that it's perfectly acceptable to decline commitments when our energy reserves are low or depleted. Just as airline safety instructions urge us to secure our own oxygen masks before assisting others during an emergency, it's crucial to prioritize self-care and recharge our own batteries before extending help to others.
